ABOUT ME!
Hello! My name is Katie Marks, and it’s very nice to meet you! A quick scan of my website will tell you that I’m an actress who recently graduated with a BFA in Acting from Point Park University- an achievement I’m very proud of. However, some other core details about me are that I’m a proud older sister, a die-hard Legend of Zelda fan, and an avid reader across many different genres.
But what does this have to do with acting? Growing up as a very reserved child in St. Louis Missouri, my favorite activity was to study the people around me. The adults at church, the kids in my after school care group, anyone within reach of ear and eyeshot. (My vision was better back then.) People made me nervous, and interacting with them is something I saw previously as a challenge to be conquered. As a kid I thought this would help me figure out how to behave with less shyness, anxiety, and more of a sense of self. What it did even more so was give me a true love for people- the different ways they carried themselves, spoke to friends or strangers, it was really moving to me how many individual people there were walking amongst me. True individuals, all very unique in their own ways.
A byproduct of this was that it made me accept myself more too. Once I found my way into theatre in high school, I realized that I could bring these nuances to life onstage- and maybe put on a performance that makes someone in the audience feel seen. So there are a million things that make me a competent actor that I could explain in this not-so-short story long to you, but really what I want to say is that acting has made me love people. I keep coming back to it because it makes me a more curious, empathetic, and hopeful person. If I can turn one audience member to feeling similarly, that will have been worth it. Let's make it happen together!
